Date Nut Bread
1½ cups of dates
1¼ cups of boiling water
2 tbsp. butter or margarine
1½ cups sugar
½ tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
2¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup nuts
½ tsp. vanilla
Wash, stone, and chop the dates. Pour boiling
water over them.
Add margarine, sugar, and salt.
Allow to cool, then add the egg.
Sift in the flour, baking soda and cream
of tartar.
Add the nuts and vanilla.
Gently combine until just mixed, pour into
baking pan.
Bake at 350º for approximately 1 hour and
15 minutes. Do not over bake.
